Hi, It was good to see a novel initiative taken up by HMI and zigwheels. It will surely bring out the “true travelers” as winners. To give you a brief about both of us,we are both designers by profession and based in Bangalore. Smita is a graduate from nid, ahemdabad and creates some wonderful textiles where as I am a fashion graduate from nift,Bombay. The field we both are into requires constant influx of knowledge and ideas, precisely why on weekends we leave the maddening Bangalore chores behind.the travel bug takes three weeks maximum to mature and bite us mad, till we head out again. Though two days are nt enough to soak in the peace and tranquility on offer ,but it surely refreshens the week s hectic schedules,(gone and to come by) . Bangalore also offers a plethora of places you can plonk your tired soul, almost in every direction you head out. Have driven to places like coorg, chickmaglur, mysore, wyanad, madhumalai, ooty, cauvery banks, bijapur, yercaud, horseley hills, elagiri TWICE OVER. It would sound like a cliché that traveling is in our blood, but the gust of fresh air,a sense of freedom ,and to explore the unknown surely makes the blood feel better. Being riding with a bullet club also makes this travel bug push us into wilder things. Did a trip DEL-MANALI-LEH-NUBRA-LEH-KARGIL-DRAS-SRINAGAR-DEL on my trusted 94 royal enfield in the summer of 2007.that trip made me feel how glad I was to have this travel bug in me.to explore the unknown,to be at places no one has been or explored gives me an immense sense of satisfaction and achievement. We read that there would be an itenary to be given for covering 3000 kms from Bombay and back. How I wish it was 6000,at least it would hold us for couple more months till we head out again. :] Smita and jagdeep

We are the best candidates because...

the point made here in brief is that when people travel, there is so much missed and left behind.could be because of the travel in the most comfortable way,or the fastest,or to the places the guide has told or are in the route map. the ideal way would be to travel with a relaxed spirit, stop by at what excites you or inspires you, interact with the locals, learn their language, eat their food, for once junk gprs and maps and discover the unknown. needless to say the two undersigned prefer the latter part.and are best suited for the adventure. smita and jagdeep

Our Travelogue

well the descripton above modestly explains the travel bug in us,though its much deeper and has a history too. would explain a bit about mine first in my brief three years spent at college,we were given a task to cover the fibre crafts of kerela.the journey was exhaustive as we did COCHIN-CHERTALAI-ALLEPEY-QUILON-KOTTAYAM-TRIVANDRUM-NAGERCOIL-KANYAKUMARI-AMBASAMUDRAM AND BACK. all through the jouney we relished all possible modes of transport, went deep within the villages to study and document the crafts.it was heartning to see that they were able to explain all about the crafts they were so passionately into ,with out us knowing the vernacular language. a fifteen day sojourn into god s own country yielded me info that stays imbibed in my memories. in my years of entrepreneurship had an oppurtunity to work with sewa, ahemdabad and khadi samiti of gujarat.the project was to develop a range for the fashion show case event called DSYN 04.the ride to the khadi samiti head quaters in gondal was long and tiring one,had not thought that i would derive inspiration for my collection even before arriving at my destination !!! the inspiration was a CHAKRA,a diesel powered bullet attached to a cart is a cheapest mode of transport in and around gujarat districts.the decoration on that vehicle would have put the pakistani truck art patrons to shame.no wonder it caught my fancy and the collection turned out to be superb. my ride to ladakh would go down as one of my best journeys ever taken, unless we are signed up for this adventure ;] it was a ride full of challenges and hurdles, that takes a toll on you. there were times the bike broke down in top of freezing passes of nubra,in the middle of furious rivers at sarchu and stuck deep in the cold deserts of pang.but the will to go ahead and reach the destination conquered all.the relationship i developed with my machine in this enduring journey is amazing and will last forever.and of course the experience of riding on the HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD IN THE WORLD does nt happen that often.(khardungla 18380 ft) smita in similar ways has covered and documented the crafts in assam and neighbouring states. my travel experiences abroad have been more work trips to thailand, hong kong, china, france, spain and germany..these trips being short are hectic too.though in the recent one to berlin i managed to catch a glimpse of the berlin wall.the wall though at best a km of it is fully painted with colorful graphics by noted contemporary artists.the feelings expressed on it are of the freedom and peace which happened after it fell in 1989.and how simple it is to destroy the boundaries and walls which we have created in our environment and within us. smita and jagdeep

"Easy Riders"- that's what describes this couple the best. It's always pleasant on the road with Jagdeep and Smita, and more to learn from them is to take in the journey, relish every moment and calmness personified in these two. All the best!

Feroz

Well, if there is a couple that loves to travel and explore, that is this. I truly feel that a journey is a lot more than the number of miles covered, it is an experience and this challenge is all about soaking it in and sharing it with the rest of the world. I truly believe this is a couple that has it in them. Good luck guys and bring me some souvenirs :)
