Sridevi Nair & Shabarish Nair

Total Vote(s) : 43 | Total Testimonial(s) : 1

We grew up travelling thanks to our parents; spending birthdays in trains, anniversaries in transit accommodations, and vacations in off beaten tracks…Great travelers would tell you that once you’ve worn those dusty boots, you can never hang them up. I am Sridevi Nair, and it’s a struggle explaining what I do. I’ve studied geology, MBA and broadcast Journalism. Worked as an advertising Suit, a radio drama producer in BBC (London & Birmingham) and then as a strategic planner in JWT and am currently GM Planning in Publicis Ambiance. My Brother Shabarish Nair has been fairly consistent, with an IT background and currently works in DowJones, but don’t let that deceive you…he frequently takes off to the wildest parts of India, unseen, unknown and bordering on the insane. We’re contesting from Bombay. I am the dreamer he’s the doer. I’m spontaneous and wild, he’s brave and determined. But we both trust our gut the most. We’re both into photography, wildlife watching, and adventure sports. I write and he talks. And oh for the record…I’m the older one… by 8 years.

We are the best candidates because...

If you read my blogs and see his photography, you’ll always get a feeling that you have vicariously visited those places and experienced what we did. We hope to do the same on this trip too… Make you sigh with relief, agonise when we leave a beautiful spot, take sides when we argue, stop your breath with rare play of light, bite your nails wondering if we’ll make it there by nightfall, make you smile at the local kids, and make you wish the old Sheppard is still around when you make your trip.

Our Travel Plan

We plan to take a trip down memory lane and cover within 3000 km as many cantonments and towns in which we’ve lived in the past. We’ll go to Kamptee, then to Jabalpur, go to Bhopal, touch Delhi and speed back to Bombay. We want to bring alive that every trip or place can be very fun and exciting and immensely memorable given the right context.

Our Travelogue

My last trip was a road trip from Bangkok to Cambodia, taking a 3rd class train and haggling with shady cab drivers on the border…my brother last went tracking lions in Gir. We’ve trekked in the Himalayas, seen the Lochness and Loch Lemond, trekked by myself along the Hadrian’s Wall in Northern England, drove along the konkan coast to Kerala with mum, stepped into Chinese territory off Sikkim, parasailed when it snowed in Lachung and froze our toes on Guru Dongmar lake. I believe it’s not just the places you travel to, but who you travel with that makes the experience worthwhile. We’ve seen the Indian borders from the East and the West and the North, the stalagmite and stalactite caves in Cherrapunji, Shillong, the mail exchange between India & China in Nathu La pass, Bhutan and its glories, Nepal, the austere remote monasteries and beautiful carpets in Zero and Meow in Arunachal, the anti gravity point in Ladakh, the so claimed original Aryan’s village near Drass, Glastonbury & Cornwall, the lesser know Vasota (Satara dist.) with its brackish waters and Ghats that look like a set up from Jurassic park, all the seven sister of North East, 6 National Parks with varied wildlife and rare birds(Kaziranga, Corbett, , Kanah, Ranthambore, Gangotri, Pench & Gir), our ancestral temple in a small village in Kerala, and smaller trips off to lesser known trails and tracks. What we’ve learnt is best put in Marcel Proust’s words… “We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us”
