We are the best candidates because...

For both of us, driving out atleast once a fortnight is mandatory to refresh our creativity. Driving around the mountains, the country side refreshes our minds and Priya, is always on the look out for the lovely themes that she can get back and capture thro her paintings! Clocking miles, especially on unchartered roads has been our tavel agenda. Even, if was driving from bangalore to mumbai, we plan our drive through the most interesting and rarely chartered paths that pass through the mountains, the sea side or the jungle, and consciously avoid the NH & the SH. My Hyundai Tucson is equipped with a compass, a columbia camping tent, tripod, Lonely Planet's India & Bangaladesh Road Atlas (my most priced possession!) and of late, a Garmin Nuvi GPS. Priya's love for driving is so passionate that, even with her handicap, she was able to convince the RTO officials to issue her a driving license! We will lose our creative abilities if we did not travel!!

Our Travel Plan

Our travel plan for the great driving challenge is to drive along the roads that run along the extreme periphery of the India. Our drive will include driving through extreme village roads and numerous ferry crossings. Starting from Mumbai, we intend to drive down to Alibag, along the western coast via Murud, Dighi, Devgarh, Dabhol, Rathanagiri, Malwan in Maharastra, enter Goa via Terekhol and drive along the coast upto Karwar, enter Karnataka and drive via Honavar, Kundhapura, Mangalore, enter Kerala and drive to Kozhikode, Ponnani, Azhicode, Cochin, Ambalapuzha, Kollam, Kovalam, into Tamilnadu via Colachel, Kanyakumari, Tiruchendur, Tuticorin, Rameswaram, Nagapatinam, Pondicherry, Chennai, and into AP via Durgaraju patinam, Maipadu, Singarayakonda, Nizampatnam, Antravedi, Kakinada, Visakapatnam, into Orissa, via Baruva, Sonnapurapeta, Puri, Konark, Paradip, Basudebpur, Chandipur, cross over to West Bengal and via Birampur, Canning, Basirhat, Bangaon, Jalangi, Jangipur, Nochia, Balurghat, Mekhliganj, Dinhata, Mankachar, Cherrapunji, Silchar, Mokokchung, Tinsukia, Pasighat, Ziro, Rowta, Barjhar, all in the NE and Assam states, back into WB at Kumargram, along the Bhutan border to Gangtok & Khanchenjunga National Park, and along Nepal border through Sitamarhi, Lakhimpur, Nainital, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Shimla, Manali, Domel, Bhimhar, Akhnoor in J&K, Ajnala, Atari, Khem Karan, Fazilka in Punjab, Anupgarh, Pugal, Bikampur, Sarkarita Tala, Ghotaru, Gadra, Sami Veri, in Rajasthan, and into Kutch & Gujarat via Kudalia, Santalpur, Dholovira, Lakhpat, Mandhvi, Jamnagar, Okha, Porbhandar, Somnath, DIU, Dumas, Valsad, Daman, Dahanu, Vasai and back to Mumbai
