We are Prem and Shikha, married and living in Ghaziabad for 7 yrs. Prem works part time ( 9 am - 8pm) for an MNC as a software engg in noida and me working full time as a home maker. We love to travel a lot and take turns to travel by road or by train. We have traveled extensively across India, and are planning for a big road trip soon. We have travelled uptil Bangalore in South, Kaziranga and uptil Sibsagar,Assam in east and Kargil,Leh, Srinagar,Sonamarg in north and Barmer Jaisalmer Pak borders in West. With time, we have become better equipped and prepared to do our travels. We also love reading, my interest being fiction, history, wars and middle east conspiracies and I recently finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. While he reads all kinds of travel magazines/books, the latest being William Dalrymple, management and economics books, philosophy and religion books and watches NGC & HBO.

We are the best candidates because...

We have some good experience of traveling, photography, writing blogs and sharing it. We have a good camera, a sharp eye for the good photographic moment/landscape. Prem has been driving for more than 15 yrs now, Initially he used to drive the family Fiat, then later a Hyundai Santro and lately for last 4 yrs or so, he has been driving an Ikon. Prem has a fantastic knack to get into bad situations and also the good luck to come out of them un-scathed with memorable experiences. I plan to click phtos at those times. We also plan to try a lot of food at different places and do take photographs of the food and dhaba/restaurant and update you all about them, might be useful for your next trip. And when we share all this, you would be only able to do one thing, wait for the next update.

Our Travel Plan

Day 1 : Mumbai-Raigad-Ganapatiphule-Ratnagiri. (375 kms) Day 2 : Ratnagiri- Calangute (North Goa) - (250 kms) Day 3 : Calangute - Old Goa (Churches and Cathedrals) - Jog Falls - (350 kms) Day 4 : Jog Falls - Kemmannugundi - Kudremukh ( 325 kms) Day 5 : Kudremukh - Mangalore - Coorg, Medikere - Mysore (350 kms) Day 6 : Mysore - Tumkur - Hampi (ruins) (450 kms) Day 7 : Hampi - Badami ( 142 kms) Day 8 : Badami - Panchgani ( 378 kms) Day 9 : Panchgani - Bhandardara, Ahmadnagar ( 300 kms) Day 10: Bhandardara - Mumbai (170 kms) Rules for the drive : 1)Always wear the seatbelts, and make sure the partner is also wearing it everytime, before pushing the accelerator! 2)Take a break as and when your body requires, do not drive fatigued! It is going to be rainy season, most probably heavy monsoons in Maharashtra and Karnataka then, and so I think the beauty of the places and roads en route, would be un matched. We plan to capture the beauty on the roads and around, cuisine at the road side dhabas, motels and resorts. We would also be going through at least one planned fantastic spot everyday apart from the many up-planned ones en route. Details : Day 1, We generally plan to leave early, typically an hour before the sunrise. This day, we would know the beautiful new Cedia sports on the fantasti Mumbai highways and we would understand each other, our bodies, curves, bends, i.e., thoroughly ins and out of each other. We plan to visit the Raigad fort in the early hours of the day. And after capturing the beauty of the majestic fort there, and soaking into the beauty of the wet Konkan in the rainy weather, we would reach at Ganapatiphule in the afternoon. Would hit the beach at Ganapatiphule after showing obeisance to the famous Ganapati temple. Sunset at the beach there. Stay at MTDC resort right on the beach in Ganapatiphule. Alternatively, we can also leave for Ratnagiri, which is less than an hour from there and stay there at Kohinoor Samudra Beach Resort, Ratnagiri. We have heard about this resort and I think it is en-route. If possible, we would go to the Ratnagiri lighthouse after dinner, for a light stroll. Day 2, We plan to get up early and cover either Ratnadurg fort or Jaigad fort, most probably it is the latter, in the early morning hours, around sunrise. The views from Jaigad fort would be magnificent, I hope in the wee hours and we intend to capture them right there. What a feast it would be, isn't, to have breakfast of those views so early. Leaving Ratnagiri, then, we definitely want to try some real Ratnagiri alphonso mangoes and intend to meet some road side mango seller there and buy it from there. The new car, the Konkan route, fantastic road and mango slices in between, can you imagine what it would be like. Ah, I taste it already( read dreaming...). Later, we plan to hit the road and then drive straight to the one of the fantastic beaches of North Goa, Calangute beach. Stay at one of the beach hotels. Plan to do para-sailing and water scooter the same day in the evening. Day 3, Start early, by capturing the sunrise on the sea shore there itself, and then moving to drive through the Old Goa, stop there for breakfast, go to Se Cathedral, Basilica of Bom Jesus depending on time. I think, every day's blog should start with a good morning photograph of the rising sun. Then move along with the sea shore to keep going through the route towards Jog Falls. Am hoping we would be taking a lot of breaks in this route, with the beautiful and foggy jungles and fantastic vista all around. Then also, with the good roads, we should be there by 4 pm. Have late lunch at arrival, relax, go down to the base of the falls, climb up, be merry, soak in the beauty of the falls and enjoy. Stay there for the night, there are many govt and private options. Day 4. As usual we start early morning so that we cover the distance at time as well as enjoy the beauty of the route and place. The route would have miles and miles of coffee plantations, which we have never seen yet. After reaching Kemmannagundi having the freshly brewed coffe at one of the places is a must. After clicks, flicks and coffee breaks, we will start our journey again towards Kudermukh and ready to enjoy the scenic beauty en-route. Kudermukh is a landscaped designed entirely by rain. If we are on time, there are good places to visit Kudermukh Peak,Lakya Dam (if timings suits because there are proper timings to visit Lakya dam), Kudermukh national Park. At Kudermukh Sahayadri Bhavan is a good place to stay but Kalasa,a small town which is around Kudermukh is also a interesting place with five sacred ponds and a nice place to stay, The Silent Valley Corporate Resort a hotel amidst natural surroundings. Day 5, Start, after capturing the early sunrise in the hills itself, move towards Mangalore. Go to the Lighthouse in north, go via mangalore port, port must be a fantastic place, with lots of huge machinery and huge containers, ships, etc. Which I dream of seeing with our own eyes and capturing it with the digital eye :-). Later drive to Medikere. The route should be good and so would be the place, I have heard a lot about it, especially in travel magz. Spend time in Medikere and drive around and reach Mysore by day break. Night halt at Mysore. Day 6, This would mostly be a long drive day. With lot of refreshment breaks in between. If we start very early in the day, we can go via Bangalore, just for the heck of it and touch B'lore, else we would directly go to Tumkur and then to Hampi. If you have seen photographs of Hampi, you would know what it is. It was the capital of Vijayanagara and the ruins are itself spread across several kilometers. Explore some today itself. Stay there overnight. Day 7, Further explore Hampi ruins starting early morning, and then before noon start for Badami caves, so as to reach there by noon. Lunch there after the relaxe, small drive and then explore the caves. Most probably photography is allowed there, and we would be able to use our camera to full extent there. Day 8, After the small drive yesterday, start early to explore the most famous places in Mumbai vicinity. Drive towards panchgani, explore route and stop wherever you feel like. Stay there or in Mahabaleshwar, as it suits. Day 9, Start early and go to the famous Bhandardara falls, Ahmadnagar. Especially, as this is monsoon times, We are hoping they would be at there magnificent best. Explore forest and chill out. Stay overnight nearby. Day 10, Start early for mumbai, and if possible, explore the new sealinks, that have just been started in Mumbai. Do not know much about driving in Mumbai, but I think, that is always the best part of it. I am a planning man, and try to be aware of the area and terran I am going to be. Would carry good maps of the area am going to drive through.Also, I try to take routes which come up and not stick to the plan always, but creating this plan, tells me everything about the place and surroundings and am always in control even after altered plans, changed routes.

Our Travelogue

We started with our first road trip on my first birthday after we got married, that was in a new Santro then. That was upto Shimla only, and only Prem used to drive, the driving experience and the route was fantastic, but trying to find a parking in Shimla was night marish. But that set the tempo and get us going. We slowly started doing cities, Jaipur, Dehradun, Haridwar-Rishikesh, Chandigarh etc and slowly moved towards hills. Later doing Kasauli, Tehri, Nainital, Narkanda etc.. Have been driving a Ford Ikon for last 4+ yrs now. Prem has had the experience of driving in US, especially Interstate 95 used to be his lifeline while he lived there. Drove many long stretches including Boston-Washington DC, New york, New Jersey, etc. Last year Prem took the plunge of his instincts and set off for Ladakh on a bike after taking 2 weeks off from office. That was the which changed lives and turned around the tables for us in life. Please read all this and more on our blog with photographs and detailed narratives.
