Our Travelogue

The best journey we have had till date was that of in the uncharted areas of Ladakh were we faced worst driving conditions, extreme weather, toughest mountain passes to cross, but by far the most beautiful place on the earth I have ever seen. On our way back from Nubra valley just before reaching Khardung La Pass at 18380 Ft. height (worlds Highest motor able road ) we encountered a snow storm with heavy snow fall. Our car got stuck in the snow and it was impossible to drive further. From 9.30 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. we were sitting in the car helplessly watching and waiting for some help to arrive. At last we decided to walk a stretch of 1 Km. to reach Army camp at Khardung La Pass. We started walking on road barely visible due to knee deep snow. The air was thin with least Oxygen. We were feeling extreme air hunger. The temperature was dropping quickly up to minus 20 degree and the hissing sound of wind was frightening. It took almost 1 hour to reach the army camp at Khardung La pass where the Jawans welcomed us and we were immediately taken care of. The colonel told us that you are lucky to survive and now you are in safe hands. We had a sigh of relief. We reached Leh by 10 in the night. This was the experience some body would wish to forget but we would love to remember for the rest of our life. I have never travelled abroad for pleasure. I hold an opinion that till I am not completely convinced that I have seen my country, I don’t wish to explore other territories.
