I am the Rann

Posted By namrata

The road ends here
You can stow that silly map away
I see you tread gingerly around the edges
Don’t be afraid, come on and play!

I can teach you a thing or two, you know
About you, your kind, your country, your land
Don’t shy away from me,
Here, you see those stars? Follow them
I too can lend someone a helping hand

I am enormous, I can be over-bearing
I have little patience for the meek
I dare you to test me and yourself
Step into the pit my friend
Let me see if you have the cheek

I am awe inspiring, I instil fear
In me you have met your match
I am your finest adversary
I’ll push your limits, test your endurance
I’ll shun you, in case you aren’t upto scratch

Indomitable, inhospitable
My mighty expanse stretches till where your eyes can see
I have no friends, none of my enemies sadly survive
But I do get lonely at times, in this vast emptiness
It isn’t easy, you know, being me

I can be gentle too at times
Ask my visiting feathered friends
I can be a quiet companion
A trusted confidante
I have all the time in the world, and a friendly ear to lend

I am a shimmering mirror, an elusive mirage
I am the edge of the world, the third eye into your soul
I can hear your thoughts, your prayers
I exist to show you, how small you are, how insignificant
I am the unconquerable, the invincible

I am the Rann.

the poem captures the desolate expanse of the rann. even without the pictures, i can lie back and imagine the acres and acres of nothingness. excellent job, namrata. :D

the photos are just the opposite. where the poem captures the bleakness of the land, the pictures tell a different tale. they are exhilarating and abundant in joy. brilliant work, joseph! :D

you both kick all sortsa butt.

apart from that - you made me want to visit rann. i am kicked to have picked your team to follow. which makes me terribly smart.

A very moving and beautiful poem,  made more apt and interesting by Joseph’s photos which really capture the mood, flavour and limitless wide expanse of the RANN. keep it up.

Loved the poem. Great attempt.

To put in words all that you see
Gives thoughts an insightful glee
Now this is something we all need
This is great, great indeed!

Sometimes joy comes
meandering through words
in a poem

Sometimes truth floats in
like a shimmering mirage
that dances

Sometimes you can
read a few stanzas and feel
life as it is lived by others

Your poem inspired me to write these words in its appreciation.

The poem reminded me of my interaction with her 8th std class teacher. The teacher felt that Namrata should write poems more often as she had a flair for it.
I am really proud of her effort and the appreciation she has received of her followers.
