Bekal Fort of ‘Tu hi re’ fame

Posted By thecouple

Many would remember the song Tu hi re (Uyire) from the Maniratnam movie - Bombay. Bekal Fort, though have a much longer history of 500 years, its claim to fame seems to be the role in this movie.

Located at the coast of Arabian sea, Bekal Fort was a strong military station for a succession of rulers - Ikkeri Nayaks in Malabar, Mysore Sulthans, and the British. Currently under the Archeological Survey of India, Bekal Fort has become a popular tourist attraction. The watch tower of Bekal Fort offers a superb view of the long coastline.
