On our honeymoon, Vibha and I camped in our two-man tent in the Tierra del Fuego Park in southern Argentina. Freezing like you wouldn't believe. One morning, Vibha stumbled out for a shower. Turned on the water. Icy spindles emerged from the shower, and showed no signs of stopping. She waited for it to turn warm. More spindles. When her fingernails started to turn blue, she finally decided to seek help. Outside, some young women brushing their teeth. "You speak English?" asked Vibha. "Sure", said one, in a decidedly Texan accent. "Oh good!" said Vibha. "How long have you been here?" "Six days, great place!" "Oh good!", said Vibha again. "Then you can tell me, how do I get warm water from the shower? "Oh, we don't know!" said the lady. "We haven't had baths yet!" So you know, we settled in Bombay. V teaches French. I write. We have baths. Surabhi and Sahir, our kids, are the lights of our lives.

Ofcourse working our way out of the daily work schedules is something we need badly. And we are seeing a reason and a season for some sheer driving pleasure and travel therapy to rejuvenate our body, mind and soul through this Driving Challenge.

Hi, something about us... It was a cool Janurary evening, we were on our official date (read arranged) at Mumbai's Go Karting at Powai. Though it was a typical boy-girl meeting arranged by our parents, we were anything but typical wannabe-husband and wannabe-wife. We both wanted to leave in 15 minutes flat. But then something happened. It was something she said...something about travel. At the sound of it, my ears perked up, eyebrows curved, eyes popped. These days we are exploring Konkan coastline in our car (Ford Fiesta) and we hit the road at any opportunity available. We dream and plan to do a road trip from Mumbai to Kerala sometime soon. Two of the most memorable driving holidays that we have done till now is the one to Kanyakumari all the way from Mumbai and the one that we just did ten days ago all the way up to the Greater Himalayas near the Tibet border from Mumbai, most of it through non touristy virgin landscapes and terrain. We did all this in a two wheel drive sedan through mostly four wheel drive terrain, and all this with our two year old toddler !!! We also dabble in a bit of rallying with Carmen as my trusted aide and navigator, now we have started relying on the GPS as she gets busy during the drive with our son.

Hi, It was good to see a novel initiative taken up by HMI and zigwheels. It will surely bring out the “true travelers” as winners. To give you a brief about both of us,we are both designers by profession and based in Bangalore. Smita is a graduate from nid,ahemdabad and creates some wonderful textiles where as I am a fashion graduate from nift,Bombay. The field we both are into requires constant influx of knowledge and ideas,precisely why on weekends we leave the maddening Bangalore chores behind.the travel bug takes three weeks maximum to mature and bite us mad, till we head out again. Though two days are nt enough to soak in the peace and tranquility on offer ,but it surely refreshens the week s hectic schedules,(gone and to come by) . Bangalore also offers a plethora of places you can plonk your tired soul,almost in every direction you head out. Have driven to places like coorg,chickmaglur,mysore,wyanad,madhumalai,ooty,cauvery banks,bijapur,yercaud,horseley hills,elagiri TWICE OVER. It would sound like a cliché that traveling is in our blood,but the gust of fresh air,a sense of freedom ,and to explore the unknown surely makes the blood feel better. Being riding with a bullet club also makes this travel bug push us into wilder things. Did a trip DEL-MANALI-LEH-NUBRA-LEH-KARGIL-DRAS-SRINAGAR-DEL on my trusted 94 royal enfield in the summer of 2007.that trip made me feel how glad I was to have this travel bug in me.to explore the unknown,to be at places no one has been or explored gives me an immense sense of satisfaction and achievement. We read that there would be an itenary to be given for covering 3000 kms from Bombay and back.How I wish it was 6000,at least it would hold us for couple more months till we head out again. :] Smita and jagdeep

If his folks did the same, he would be called Alfa romeo - innovative, sporty and compact (!!!) - that's Vibhor for you. She grew up in Goaah! like an obedient daughter "dad's-pet-ideal-child" - studying at home, when she was done studying at the school. Of course, there was an "occasional" visit to the beach once EVERY DAY ;) He grew up like a brat, spending time inside cars WHENEVER he could - moving or stopped, open or locked, windows down or gasping for air,.... He learnt driving by the age when its illegal even to sit on the front passenger seat. Of course like a good citizen, he obeys 99.99% of traffic laws.
